Cigna : Earns "Certified" Status for Both Physician and Hospital Quality from National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA)

BLOOMFIELD, Conn. - August 21, 2017 - After an extensive review by the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) Review Oversight Committee, Cigna (NYSE: CI) has earned 'Certified' status for both physician and hospital quality. Cigna is the only national health plan to achieve both certifications through NCQA's Physician and Hospital Quality (PHQ) survey.

The certification program evaluates how well health plans measure and report the quality and cost of physicians and hospitals in their networks. The PHQ seal represents an impartial third‐party certification of provider measurement programs, and provides assurance that such efforts use valid, transparent methodologies, and measure both quality and cost.

Cigna's PHQ certifications, which became effective July 5 for a period of two years, recognize the company 'for using physician and hospital performance information to improve the quality and affordability of care and help consumers make informed decisions.'

Cigna displays quality and cost efficiency ratings on its customer portal,myCigna.com, so customers can make informed choices when choosing a doctor or hospital. Cigna also shows customers which hospitals have been designated as a Cigna Center of Excellence for specific procedures, such as heart surgery, cancer surgery, back surgery or joint replacements.
