Cintas Corporation (CTAS) is now accepting nominations for its annual Cintas’ America’s Best Restroom Contest. Each year, the company selects the “top 10 places to go when you’ve got to go” and then asks people to vote online in an all-out “battle of the bowls.”

The contest is open to any non-residential restroom in the U.S. accessible to the general public. Entries are judged on cleanliness, visual appeal, innovation, functionality and unique design elements. Nominations end July 20 and voting takes place in fall 2014.

Cintas believes a clean restroom not only protects users’ health, but also leaves a powerful impression of your business. In fact, a recent Cintas study found 95 percent of restroom users would avoid an establishment in the future if they found the restroom to be dirty.

“For the past twelve years, our America’s Best Restroom Contest has educated people across the country in a fun way about the importance of proper hygiene in public establishments,” says John Engel, Cintas’ Senior Marketing Manager. “Once again, we are excited to encourage business owners to strive for restroom excellence in function, design and cleanliness.”

Year after year, the Cintas’ America’s Best Restroom Contest captures a variety of local and national media. In 2013, the contest - along with Cintas’ Canada’s Best Restroom - appeared on CNN.com, CNBC.com, USA Today and on local newscasts from Honolulu to New York City.

“The contest is unique, engaging and consistently places businesses in front of thousands of potential customers coast to coast,” says Engel. “It is terrific exposure for them, while also promoting creativity and a commitment to cleanliness to businesses throughout the United States.”

“In 2013, our nominees ran the gamut from an ice cream parlor in Florida to an 80s-themed arcade in Portland and even the Waldorf Astoria in New York City,” says Danny Rubin, survey editor for Cintas’ America’s Best Restroom Contest. “In the end, Varsity Theater, a music hall in Minneapolis, took top honors with its creative brickwork and architecture.”

Cintas will announce ten finalists in August, at which time online voting will begin. The winner and runner-up will be revealed this fall during a nationally publicized media event, and the top vote-getters will secure their place in Cintas’ America’s Best Restroom Contest Hall of Fame.
