Citi (NYSE:C) and the University of Hong Kong (HKU) today jointly announced the successful completion of the HKU–Citibank University Banking Course 2015-2016.

At the graduation ceremony held today, 48 students from the HKU were presented with a certificate for completing the three-month program, which consists of a series of lectures taught by senior bankers at Citi Hong Kong. Among the participants, four were selected to receive the “Outstanding Achievement Award.” These four students will have the opportunity to join Citi Kong Kong’s 2016 summer internship program and put their newly-acquired skills into practice. The selection criteria for the award are based on the students’ overall performance, taking into account their attendance record, class participation, term-end test results, and final project scores.

Mr. Weber Lo, Citi Country Officer & Chief Executive Officer, Hong Kong and Macau, said, “In a fast changing world such as the one we live in today, we must learn to quickly adapt, innovate and evolve to stay competitive. Three months ago, the students embarked on a learning journey to gain a better understanding of the banking industry. We were deeply encouraged by their enthusiasm and eagerness to learn. I hope that they will continue to apply the same qualities in everything they do in life, remain curious, and equip themselves for the future.”

“I would like to take the opportunity to thank our longstanding partner the University of Hong Kong and the staff at the Faculty of Business and Economics for their excellent support on the program,” he added.

Professor Ian Holliday, the Vice-President and Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Teaching and Learning), said, “I am much honoured to participate in both Inauguration and Graduation Ceremonies of the Banking Course. My deepest gratitude goes to Citi who, in the past three months, made a lot of effort grooming students with knowledge on various banking operations. Their bankers’ generous sharing of experience in real life situation was equally eye-opening. With Citi’s commitment and enthusiasm in developing financial talents, this Banking Course comes to another year of success. We look forward to the future partnership with Citi to continue our shared mission of nurturing future business leaders.”

In January this year, 48 students were selected from close to 200 applicants to attend the university banking course. During the three-month program, students attended 15 classroom lectures covering a wide range of topics that are highly relevant to banking in today’s world. All students were required to complete a term-end test and a final group project.

Established in 2004, the Citibank University Banking Course was developed with the aim of introducing university students to the banking industry and nurturing future business leaders. Since launch, more than 400 university students in Hong Kong have attended the banking course and received in total over 300 hours of teaching on the fundamentals of banking and finance.
