Citigroup Inc. (“Citi”) announced today that it has purchased 3800 Citibank Center from an affiliate of Zurich Alternative Asset Management. The service center is home to approximately 5,600 employees who serve in a variety of different functions, including Client Services, Finance, Human Resources, Legal and Risk Services. The terms of the deal were not disclosed and are not material to either company.

“We are proud to call Tampa home and this decision is a reflection of our ongoing investment and support for the community where we live and work,” said Citi Head of Operations and Technology Don Callahan. “We continually look for ways to make our workspaces more engaging and effective for our employees and owning the service center will give us more opportunities to do so.”

More Citi employees are located in Florida than in any other U.S. state outside of New York. Citi’s presence in the state includes more than 100 locations, including its branch network and approximately 10,000 employees.

“Since Citi first established our presence in Tampa in 1983 with a retail support site, we have evolved and expanded to what is now a service center which provides support for many of Citi’s businesses and global functions,” said Citi Tampa Site President Gregg Morton. “This expansion would not have been possible without our important partnerships with the Tampa Hillsborough Economic Development Corporation, Enterprise Florida, Hillsborough County and the City of Tampa, and we look forward to a continued partnership with them in the years ahead.”

“Citi has been a tremendous partner and employer for the local community for over three decades and today’s announcement reaffirms their commitment to the Tampa area,” said Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn.

“Citi’s presence in Tampa has attracted exceptional and diverse talent to our market, and created thousands of jobs and rewarding career paths for our local workforce,” said Craig J. Richard, CEcD, CEO and president of the Tampa Hillsborough Economic Development Corp. “We thank Citi for their continued investment in our community.”

“Citi’s real estate investment is a validation of the economic vitality of our community,” said the Hon. Stacy White, chairman of the Hillsborough County Board of County Commissioners. “Their long-term presence and capital investment is a testament to the pro-business stance of our County government.”

Citi colleagues are active members of the Tampa community and regularly serve the area through initiatives like Global Community Day, educational partnerships and mentoring programs. In 2016, the service center surpassed its largest ever number of employee volunteer hours with more than 25,000 hours committed to local community projects.
