PINEVILLE, LA., July 1, 2014 - Cleco reminds everyone that posting political signs, garage sale signs and other notices to utility poles can create a serious hazard for utility workers.

Nails and staples used to attach signs to utility poles can create a double safety hazard. First, metal objects in poles can puncture the insulted rubber gloves Cleco line mechanics wear for protection against electrical shock. Secondly, line mechanics use hooks on their boots for climbing poles, and nails and staples can prevent hooks from going into solid wood.

"Keeping our workers safe is a top priority for us, and we ask that the community help us by not posting signs to utility poles," said Anthony Bunting, vice president of transmission and distribution operations. "In time, the signs may fall off of the poles but the nails and staples remain, potentially slowing our work efforts and creating an unsafe work environment."
