CLP Power Launches Major New Initiatives to Promote Green Motoring
CLP Power Hong Kong Limited (CLP Power) today (25 June) announces two major new initiatives in response to the rapid development of the electric vehicle (EV) market in Hong Kong and to the growing needs of EV users.
The company is pioneering the introduction of the first multi-standard quick charger in Hong Kong and simultaneously launching a one-stop "333 EV Power Supply Support" service, which makes it easier for EV drivers to arrange for the installation of EV charging facilities in the car parks of residential and commercial buildings. Through these twin measures, CLP Power aims to encourage the use of EVs in Hong Kong and promote green driving.
CLP Power Director of Marketing and Customer Services Mr Chow Lap Man said: "Environmental protection is one of the company's core values and we have offered unwavering support to the government's call for emissions-free driving through the years. As a power supplier, CLP Power is committed to expanding the EV charging network throughout its service areas using our highly reliable electricity supply system.
"EVs are becoming increasingly popular with our customers, and we are introducing the first multi-standard quick charger in Hong Kong and a one-stop "333 EV Power Supply Support" service to meet the practical needs of EV drivers with a view to upholding customer service excellence. We hope to offer EV drivers ever greater convenience to further promote green driving."
CLP Power has pioneered the introduction of charging stations across its power supply network since 2009. Drivers can now charge their EVs for free until the end of the year at CLP Power's 32 standard and semi-quick charging stations, as well as seven quick-charging stations, with 146 charging points covering every major district in Kowloon, the New Territories and Lantau.
The multi-standard EV quick charger, located at CLP Centenary Building in Jordan, begins operations today. The charger is compatible with EVs from Europe, the US and Japan as well as models recently introduced to Hong Kong from Korea. It supports multi-standard quick charging including the Japanese quick charging standard (CHAdeMO) and two European quick charging standards (CCS and IEC Type 2 AC 3 Phase). The charger also enables the majority of compatible EVs to be charged to up to 80% within 30 minutes, providing enough power for a journey of approximately 100 km.
CLP Power plans to add 10 multi-standard quick chargers in districts across the city by the end of 2016 as demand for EVs continues to grow. By then, CLP Power's EV quick charging stations will be available at intervals averaging 10 km in Kowloon and the New Territories. The company also plans to gradually upgrade the existing 39 standard chargers to semi-quick chargers.

In the second new initiative, CLP Power today also launched a one-stop "333 EV Power Supply Support" service, offering a more user-friendly option for customers intending to install EV charging facilities at parking spaces in residential or commercial buildings. Under the new scheme, customers who own or rent a parking space can simply fill in three forms to apply for the service: The Electricity Supply Application Form, a Confirmation of Agreement from Owner(s) of Rising Mains for Connection of Electrical Installation with an Increased Current Demand, and the Confirmation of Agreement for Connection of Electric Vehicle Charging Facilities and Deduction of Consumption.
Upon receipt of the forms, CLP Power will assign a representative to conduct a site inspection within three working days. The representative will provide advice on electricity meter installation and help customers access a nearby power supply in the car park for easy installation. After the EV charging infrastructure has been put in place, CLP Power will deploy employees to check the relevant facilities within three working days. If the installation work fulfils relevant requirements, CLP Power will then proceed with circuit connection and sub-meters installation.
Mr Chow said: "This new service simplifies the present application and technical procedures for sub-meters installation at parking spaces. It will not only help car owners to save time and the cost of cable installation for EV charging infrastructure, but they will also benefit from individual billing that records the exact power usage of their EVs."
