CLP Power wins Award for Exceptional Volunteer Work in Community

CLP Power Hong Kong Limited (CLP Power) has been given recognition for its diverse range of volunteer projects and its enthusiastic support of community work with the presentation of the Corporate Award in the Hong Kong Volunteer Award programme.

The award was presented at the 6th Hong Kong Volunteer Award Presentation Ceremony to CLP Power Managing Director Mr Paul Poon who said he was delighted the tireless efforts of CLP employees in caring for the community had been appreciated.

'The business of CLP Power is closely aligned with the well-being of the community we serve, and caring for the community is a proud tradition of our founding Kadoorie family,' he said. 'We are committed to delivering a reliable and safe electricity supply and our employees selflessly participate in volunteer service, serving the community in their own free time.'

Over the years, CLP Power has encouraged its employees to use their expertise and technical skills for volunteer work and to serve the community with care and love. Volunteer programmes include providing a free electrical re-wiring service for elderly people in need and giving elementary lessons in electrical installation to the Operation Dawn Gospel Drug Rehabitation Centre on Town Island.

The company has also worked closely with a variety of community partners to develop a broad range of community services. Last year, volunteers handed out sets of energy efficient electrical appliances to 4,000 underprivileged households in its supply area to help them save energy, cut down on bills, improve their home safety, and raise their standards of living.

CLP Power has also teamed up with non-government organisations to launch a Hotmeal Canteen service, providing hot meals at nominal costs since 2011 to low-income families and unemployed people in the Sham Shui Po, Kwai Tsing and Kwun Tong districts.

The CLP Volunteer Team, established by a group of dedicated frontline employees in 1994, is one of the largest corporate volunteer teams in Hong Kong with more than 1,400 members. Senior company management regularly join in the volunteer services and programmes.

In addition, CLP Power has launched a Voluntary Services Matching Donation Programme, donating HK$20 to the Community Chest of Hong Kong for each voluntary service hour contributed by CLP employees and their family members or friends. The more hours of voluntary service our employees give, the more people benefit.

The Hong Kong Volunteer Award is co-organised by the Agency for Volunteer Service and RoadShow and aims to recognise volunteers' contribution and achievements, to provide exemplary volunteering models to society, and to raise social recognition for volunteerism. The Corporate Award recognises an outstanding business corporation for its distinguished contribution and accomplishments in promoting volunteerism.
