CHICAGO, Jan. 27, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- CME Group, the world's leading and most diverse derivatives marketplace, today announced a record volume trading day in the Equity Index options complex, which reached 1,061,279 contracts on January 24, 2014, surpassing the previous record of 931,164 on June 20, 2013, a 13 percent increase. This is the first time in CME Group's trading history that the entire Equity Index options complex has surpassed one million contracts in a single trading day.

The E-mini S&P 500 options, including the weeklies and monthlies, traded 966,881 on January 24, 2014, surpassing the prior record of 809,935 on June 20, 2013, a 19 percent increase.

With five trading days remaining in January 2014, Equity Index options are up 69 percent from last year and the E-mini S&P 500 contracts are up 76 percent.
