NSW CONTAINER DEPOSIT SCHEME - PRICES

The NSW Government Container Deposit Scheme (CDS), called Return and Earn, will start on 1 December 2017.

To fund the CDS, from 1 November 2017 Return and Earn will impose mandatory costs on the supply of eligible containers into the NSW market - to cover the 10cent deposit as well as handling, administration and scheme compliance costs.

As a consequence, Coca-Cola Amatil is implementing an additional charge arising from the CDS in our pricing for all affected products from 1 November 2017. Our aim is to keep CDS costs as low as possible for our customers.

To calculate the additional charge arising the CDS, Coca-Cola Amatil took into account a range of relevant factors including:

  • estimates of CDS costs to suppliers published online by Return and Earn (returnandearn.org.au) for the first three months of the scheme (http://returnandearn.org.au/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/ReturnandEarn_SchemeCosts.pdf); and

  • redemption rates as assessed by Return and Earn, considering the redemption channel and container type.

Return and Earn will begin invoicing all first suppliers (including Coca-Cola Amatil) from Wednesday, 1 November. Coca-Cola Amatil will match this date and apply the additional charge arising from the CDS to orders from that date.

It is not our preference to increase prices, however it is important that our customers understand these additional charges arising from the CDS are a direct consequence of NSW Government policy.

Information about the scheme for "Returnand Earn" is available at returnandearn.org.au.
