The new Spar Erembodegem will be opening on Thursday 12 July. What was once an electrical business has been completely renovated and extended to create more retail space. The store has been refurbished in the style of the new generation of Spar convenience stores from Retail Partners Colruyt Group. The independent proprietor is organising a large opening reception to take place on Wednesday 11 July between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. All local residents are welcome to have a look around, a drink and a bite to eat from the Spar mobile chip stand.

New style
Spar Erembodegem is at Brusselbaan 208, on the site of a former electrical business. The building has been completely renovated and extended to create a spacious supermarket with 701 m2 of retail space, which meets the quality standards of the new generation of Spar stores.

'This convenience store is ideally located and easily accessible. Brusselbaan is a lively street with lots of businesses that attract and serve customers from throughout the area,' says Ronny Vandeweijer. The independent proprietor has 25 years of retail experience, which he is determined to use to spread the word quickly about the Spar in Erembodegem.

'Welcoming customers, being flexible and responding quickly to the expectations of local residents are my top priorities. My motivated team and I want to turn Spar Erembodegem into a customer-friendly local store,' says Ronny. 'We intend to work together to make it a success.'

Concentrating on fresh produce
Providing healthy and fresh food is key for Spar Erembodegem, and a lot of time has been spent on selecting the range of fruit and vegetables, fresh and cooked meats. Ronny says 'We offer a wide range, with a focus on fresh produce. So, our choice of fish depends on what has been caught, to ensure that we only sell fresh fish.' The priority for the independent proprietor is that all the food is monitored for freshness and quality, so all the fresh food on the shelves is closely tracked. A wide selection of freshly-prepared salads and ready meals are also available in the chillers.

Convenient shopping
A lot of thought has also gone into a convenient store layout. Fresh basic products are positioned at the front of the store, so that regular customers can do their daily shopping as quickly as possible. 'The bakery is next to the entrance so local residents can buy their fresh bread more quickly in the mornings,' explains Ronny.

The new till system makes paying faster; ideal for local customers who buy little and often. Service is provided by an enthusiastic team of 14 employees from Erembodegem, whose local knowledge ensures a warm welcome. The car park has room for around 50 cars, so there is always plenty of space.

In full development
Spar Erembodegem is at the heart of an area undergoing a complete transformation. This is a densely-populated built-up area which has still retained a village atmosphere and has plenty of green spaces. The arrival of a convenience store like Spar Erembodegem enhances the quality of life of an active community that is in full development.

The independent proprietor also wants to make sure his store meets the everyday requirements and expectations of its customers. 'We offer direct personal contact so that everyone in Erembodegem feels at home in the store,' says Ronny, and he is therefore organising an opening reception on 11 July between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. to welcome local residents with a drink and a bite to eat
