The Comcast Foundation today announced the 2015-16 recipients of its annual Leaders and Achievers® Scholarship Program awards.

“We are honored to recognize the accomplishments of our 68 Leaders and Achievers Scholarship winners. They exemplify leadership and show great commitment to academic excellence and community service,” said Rodrigo Lopez, regional senior vice president of Comcast Oregon & SW Washington. “We are excited to support them as they enter their next chapters in education.”

Sixty-eight Oregon and Southwest Washington high school seniors will be awarded $1,000 scholarships. Comcast is honoring the students at a recognition celebration beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 30 at the Portland World Trade Center: 121 SW Salmon St. #2 Portland, OR 97204. At the celebration, three students will receive additional Comcast Founder’s scholarships, two for $4,000 and one for $9,000 which will bring the total awards to those winners to $5,000 and $10,000 respectively. Fifteen students will also receive iPad minis to help with their studies. Honored students and guests will hear from Oregon Attorney General Ellen Rosenblum.

The Comcast Leaders and Achievers® Scholarship Program provides $1,000 scholarships to students who strive to achieve their potential, who are catalysts for positive change in their communities, who are involved in their schools, and who serve as models for their fellow students. The philosophy behind the program is to give young people every opportunity to prepare for the future and to engage them in their communities. The program also demonstrates the importance of civic involvement, and the value placed on civic involvement by the business community.

To date, Comcast has awarded more than $22.8 million to nearly 23,000 Leaders and Achievers Scholarship winners.
