Comcast Corporation announced today that Francis M. Buono has been named Senior Vice President of Legal Regulatory Affairs and Senior Deputy General Counsel. In this role, Mr. Buono will lead the Legal Regulatory Group and will be responsible for providing corporate-wide legal advice on regulatory matters and overseeing the company’s legal regulatory advocacy, including filings in federal and state regulatory proceedings and related litigation and appeals. He will report directly to David L. Cohen, Senior Executive Vice President and Chief Diversity Officer of Comcast Corporation, and will become part of the senior leadership team in Comcast’s Washington, D.C. office.

Mr. Buono joins Comcast from Willkie Farr & Gallagher LLP where he most recently served as partner and Chair of the Communications, Media & Privacy Department and Chair of the Data Privacy & Security Practice Group.

During the course of his tenure, spanning over 25 years, at Willkie Farr & Gallagher LLP he has represented cable operators, Internet service providers, video programmers, and equipment manufacturers in major FCC rulemakings, merger transactions, and congressional legislation (including the Telecommunications Act of 1996), as well as in administrative adjudications regarding the FCC’s program access, program carriage, rate regulation, navigation device, effective competition, cable ownership, and must-carry rules. He has also represented financial institutions, information service providers, retailers, communications providers, insurance companies, cloud computing vendors, and others on various U.S. and international data privacy and data security issues.

Mr. Buono earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Georgetown University and a Juris Doctor degree from Georgetown University Law Center, and in both instances graduated with honors. Mr. Buono will assume his responsibilities in early January 2016 and will be based out of the company’s Washington, D.C. office. Until Mr. Buono joins the company, Lynn Charytan, who was promoted earlier this week to the position of General Counsel of Comcast Cable, will continue to cover her corporate legal regulatory responsibilities.

Mr. Buono lives in Arlington, VA with his wife Miriam of 25 years and six children. He is an avid sports fan and a passionate coach of youth baseball and basketball.
