Comcast Business today announced it has embarked on a $120,000 fiber optic network expansion in the Bellingham Squalicum Harbor area in Washington, including Coho Way and Harbor Loop Drive on the northern shore of Bellingham Bay. Capable of delivering symmetrical speeds up to 10 Gigabits-per-second (Gbps), this fiber-based Ethernet network will provide more than 55 local businesses in the COHO Marina area with high-performance Ethernet, internet and voice solutions to support daily business operations.

“The COHO Marina and Bellingham Squalicum Harbor area is home to nearly 60 businesses that will greatly benefit from Comcast Business’ high-capacity network services,” said Matt Fassnacht, vice president of Comcast Business in Washington. “Our secure, scalable and reliable network will help these organizations to expand their operations by offering advanced technology and delivering a better customer experience.”

Businesses in Whatcom County’s COHO Marina area benefitting from the Comcast network primarily offer amenities for marina and aquatic activities, including yacht sales and other ocean recreation merchandise. Also included in the expansion area are local retail companies, along with a data center that will benefit from improved upstream speeds and the ability to communicate more quickly with other data centers.

“Access to reliable, high-speed internet access is critical to attracting and retaining innovative businesses in Whatcom County,” said Meg Weber, executive director of the Technology Alliance Group for Northwest Washington. “Whatcom County boasts a competitive, engaging and rich landscape for high-speed access – one that truly furthers business opportunities. Comcast Business is providing a reliable network that will benefit the present businesses and also scale to serve future businesses for years to come.”
