UEFA Europa League live on SPORT1 - Constantin Medien subsidiary SPORT1 acquires comprehensive rights package from 2015/16 season
  • Sport1 GmbH acquires platform-neutral audiovisual exploitation rights for Germany from UEFA through 2017/18
  • One game per matchday live on free-TV on SPORT1 and on livestream at SPORT1.de

SPORT1 lands the UEFA Europa League: Constantin Medien subsidiary Sport1 GmbH has acquired comprehensive platform-neutral audiovisual media rights from UEFA to the UEFA Europa League for the next three seasons 2015/16, 2016/17 and 2017/18. As of the coming season, SPORT1 will broadcast one game per matchday live on free-TV as well as via online and mobile livestream at SPORT1.de and on its digital sports radio SPORT1.fm - a total of 15 games per season. The deal also includes highlight rights to all UEFA Europa League games for use on TV, online and on mobile devices.

SPORT1 with extensive coverage of UEFA Europa League
In the group stage, SPORT1 will show one game on each of the six matchdays, and in the knockout phase one home and away game each plus the final. The station itself can choose which game to show each matchday within the so-called "first pick". Each live game from the UEFA Europa League on SPORT1 will be accompanied by comprehensive cross-media programming: On free-TV the big Thursday evening devoted to European cup action will kick off already early evening with extensive pre-match coverage. The game itself will be followed by highlights and analyses as well as round-ups of the other games. The live games will be covered by a fixed team consisting of presenter, field reporter and commentator.

The UEFA Europa League will also be covered comprehensively online at SPORT1.de and on mobile via the various SPORT1 apps - including with a parallel livestream of each TV game and corresponding pre- and post-match reporting as well as clips of the best sequences from the game selected by SPORT1.

Olaf Schröder, Chairman of the Management of Sport1 GmbH: "We are very much looking forward to the successful and trusted partnership with UEFA. The acquisition of such a major international live right as the UEFA Europa League is a massive boost, not only to our already attractive sports-rights portfolio but also to our sports-media brand. In addition, we are underpinning our strategy of sustainable investment in SPORT1 with this long-term co-operation. For the soccer fans, I can promise great evenings of European cup action with comprehensive live coverage on all SPORT1 platforms."

UEFA Europa League also continuing live on SPORT1.fm
The rights package also includes live audio rights as of next season. Already since the start of the current season, digital sports radio SPORT.fm has been offering live coverage of not just the games of the German clubs in the UEFA Champions League but also those of Wolfsburg and Mönchengladbach in the UEFA Europa League.

On SPORT1's online and mobile platforms, the UEFA Europa League has been available for years with its own channels, which include news, interviews, statistics and live tickers. Furthermore, this season as in previous years, SPORT1 has shown selected qualifying games of German clubs from the playoff round of the UEFA Europa League live on free-TV.
