• Group sales increased to EUR 152.1 million, especially due to the Segment Film
  • EBIT increases by EUR 1.5 million to EUR 6.1 million
  • Group net profit grows from EUR -0.8 million to EUR 1.0 million
  • Group earnings attributable to shareholders improved by EUR 0.4 million to EUR -0.7 million

Constantin Medien AG continued its positive operating trend from the previous year in the first three months 2016. Group sales increased from EUR 95.3 million in the same period last year by 59.6 percent to EUR 152.1 million in the first quarter, driven by the Film Segment. Profit from operations (EBIT) improved by EUR 1.5 million to EUR 6.1 million (Q1 2015: EUR 4.6 million). Group net profit (profit after taxes) turned from EUR -0.8 million to a positive amount of EUR 1.0 million. Earnings attributable to shareholders included therein improved to EUR -0.7 million (Q1 2015: EUR -1.1 million), whereby a non-recurring expense of EUR -0.8 million arose from the sale of the Segment Other Business Activities and several non-strategic investments and associated companies.
  • Segment Sports generated good coverage and user figures on the SPORT1 platforms with a slightly below-budget development in the area of production and reached nearly similar quarter sales of EUR 35.2 million (Q1 2015: EUR 35.5 million). Due to planned higher cost of materials and licenses, segment earnings of EUR 0.8 million were behind the prior year's level (Q1 2015: EUR 2.1 million).
  • Based on successes in the areas license trading and home entertainment, the Film Segment's quarter sales more than doubled to EUR 103.3 million (Q1 2015: EUR 48.4 million). Segment earnings were nearly balanced despite higher amortization on film assets (EUR -0.1 million versus EUR -0.9 million in Q1 2015).
  • Segment Sports- and Event-Marketing increased sales by 27.6 percent to EUR 13.4 million. Segment earnings of EUR 5.6 million remained at high level (Q1 2015: EUR 5.8 million).

For the 2016 full year, the Management Board is still anticipating Group sales to range between EUR 550 million and EUR 590 million with earnings attributable to shareholders of EUR 6 million to EUR 9 million. Moreover, Constantin Medien is also applying the Group EBIT as another key performance indicator since the first quarter of 2016: an EBIT between EUR 29 million and EUR 33 million is expected for the current year.

Fred Kogel, Chief Executive Officer of Constantin Medien AG: 'Good coverage and user figures of our SPORT1 platforms, a strong licensing and home entertainment business as well as a characteristically, high solid performance of TEAM have shaped the start of the year. Furthermore, we have streamlined our Group portfolio by means of divestments. The business performance of the first quarter was in line with our expectations overall.'
