Baltimore Gas and Electric Company Encourages Customers to Take Advantage of Expanded Funding Through BGE’s Home Performance with ENERGY STAR®

BGE Customers can continue to receive up to $5,550 in rebates from both BGE and the

Maryland Energy Administration (MEA)

BALTIMORE, Aug. 4, 2011 – Baltimore Gas and Electric Company (BGE) today announced that the Maryland Energy Administration (MEA) has made available more than $850,000 in additional funds intended to encourage customers to take advantage of BGE’s Home Performance with ENERGY STAR Program. Combining BGE rebates of up to $2,450 with MEA rebates of up to $3,100 gives customers the opportunity to receive rebates of up to $5,550 on comprehensive, “whole house” energy audits. The expanded rebates are available for a limited time.

“BGE is committed to ensuring its customers have the tools and information they need to reduce and better manage energy usage and save money,” said Ruth C. Kiselewich, director of energy efficiency programs for BGE. “Now is the time for BGE customers who may have delayed taking advantage of BGE’s Home Performance with ENERGY STAR Program due to cost, to consider making these investments while increased rebates of up to $5,550 are still available. BGE’s Smart Energy Savers

Program® rebates of up to $2,450 will remain available at least through the end of the year, even if the

extra funding provided by MEA has been exhausted.”

Home Performance with ENERGY STAR is designed to improve the comfort, energy efficiency, health, safety and durability of customers’ homes. Certified contractors use special equipment to check insulation levels, duct leakage, heating and air conditioning systems, lighting, appliances and other potential trouble spots to identify energy inefficiencies and make recommendations for addressing them. The customer is left with a comprehensive report detailing all findings. This thorough review typically results in fewer drafty rooms, consistent temperatures across rooms, better ventilation and humidity control and energy savings of up to 20 percent. Nearly 250 Home Performance with ENERGY STAR projects have been completed by BGE customers since the program’s launch in 2009 and customers can

choose between nearly 40 participating contractors that are trained and qualified to perform this work. Maximizing a home’s energy efficiency not only reduces energy use and benefits the environment, but also helps customers manage and lower their utility bills.

BGE’s Smart Energy Savers Program features a comprehensive portfolio of energy efficiency programs, intended to help customers reduce energy usage and demand in support of EmPOWER Maryland’s goal of a 15 percent per capita reduction in energy consumption by 2015. Through 2011, overall energy savings of more than 635 million kilowatt hours, which is equivalent to eliminating the carbon dioxide emissions from the electricity use of nearly 53,000 homes for one year, has been achieved.
