  • Continental provides components from all divisions
  • Contact with future experts a key aspect of the involvement

Hanover, August 4, 2015. Continental has further intensified its activities as part of the "Formula Student Germany" design competition. This year, the international automotive supplier, tire manufacturer, and industrial partner will be supporting 41 teams worldwide - 20 from Germany and 21 international teams - providing them with highly specialized vehicle components and technical expertise. Six years ago, this number was around half this amount at 24 teams. Components supplied for the teams' racing cars include special tires, sensor clusters, gasoline pumps, brake light switches, and safety tank bladders.

"Innovations in the vehicles of today and tomorrow are increasingly being based on networked systems. These systems require engineers who can think and work in networks. Our involvement in the international 'Formula Student' design competition therefore presents an important, strategic opportunity to meet our future experts and see them in action early on. We don't limit ourselves to our presence at the Hockenheimring - we also support the teams in their design work throughout the year," explains Steffen Brinkmann, head of HR Marketing Germany.

This year is the tenth time the Hockenheimring has hosted the final event of "Formula Student Germany." In this design competition, young engineers from international universities are given a year to independently draft, design, and build a prototype of a single-seater racing car. They are not limited to conventional internal-combustion engines - they can also compete with electric vehicles in the "Formula Student Electric" category. At the Hockenheimring event, the vehicles they have built are appraised by experts from the automotive industry according to three static categories and five dynamic disciplines.

The commitment of the technology group Continental also extends to the support of teams worldwide, at events in China, the U.S.A., and in Hungary. The teams supported by Continental will also be invited to the traditional "After Race" event, where the young engineers will get the chance to put the racing cars through their paces. The event also provides the opportunity for participants to share their experiences with the other teams and the engineers from Continental.
