Innovative diagnostic software from Continental

The purpose of diagnostics is to detect faults as quickly and accurately as possible. Continental's intelligent troubleshooting system uses a self-teaching algorithm to link vehicle data with symptoms, diagnostic data, information derived from experience and data on the environment, in this way determining the most likely cause in the individual case. As soon as the cause is identified, the system provides instructions for rectifying the fault.

The new software can contribute significantly to customer satisfaction. For example, right after generating the diagnostic data it can draw up a maintenance plan with precise time information (with roughly 95 percent accuracy). In this way workshops immediately know how much time they will need for service. They can give their customers a reliable prediction and improve their own capacity planning. The software also allows workshops to increase their efficiency by incorporating logistics data on the availability of spare parts.

Added to this, Continental's solution is very easy to work with. An innovative switching function allows users to go back and forth between live data from the vehicle and fault codes without losing data or having to retrieve them again.

Augmented reality diagnostic solutions for authorized workshops

Continental has developed augmented reality solutions for authorized workshops that make repair work more efficient and reliable. The information and technical details required for diagnostics are integrated in the user interface of a tablet PC so that service technicians have access to all the information they need in real time. The intuitive interface changes with each work step. For example, the display shows a live image of the engine, and the diagnostic software marks the components in the image that must be worked on first.

Continental's diagnostic portfolio for authorized workshops also includes easy-to-operate diagnostic devices, custom tools and individually prepared user information such as driver's manuals in a wide range of versions.

"As one of the leading automotive suppliers, Continental knows what car manufacturers and their workshop partners need, and we use our expertise to provide comprehensive OE diagnostic solutions," says Peter Wagner, Head of Segment Independent Aftermarket at Continental. "With our new portfolio of diagnostic tools we have positioned ourselves as a strong partner for the service activities of the car manufacturers."
