12/07/2012€5 million investment in site • 25 new jobs created • Presence boosted in the region

Nyíregyháza/Hanover, December 5, 2012. Today, ContiTech has opened a new plant for rubber compounds in Nyíregyháza, Hungary. Around 25 new jobs have been created at this production site. The plant belongs to Phoenix Légrugró Technológia Ltd., which already operates a plant for air spring systems in Nyíregyháza with 220 employees. "The new compounding center strengthens the ContiTech presence in the region and is affiliated to the Compounding business unit of ContiTech," explained Dr. Peter Scholtissek, Head of the ContiTech Compounding Technology business unit during the inauguration ceremony. "This has also created the basis from which we can boost production at the other plants in the region." The new compounding center supplies the ContiTech plants for air suspension systems in Nyíregyháza, the hose production sites in Makó/Hungary and Carei/Romania, as well as external customers in the region. External customers who are already existing customers of Phoenix Compounding Technology in Germany are also to be supplied from the new compounding center.

The production hall - initially equipped with one compounding line - was built in a six-month construction period. Space is available for expansion. ContiTech has invested around €5 million in the new plant. "We are delighted that we have been able to create 25 new jobs with support from the European Union and the Hungarian Development Agency Corporation (MAPI)," said László Jókay, who is currently the Head of the Air Suspension Plant but is also due to assume responsibility for the compounding center in the future, at the reception.

Industrial rubber production has been at home in Nyíregyháza since 1962. During the past 50 years, many renowned, high-quality products have been developed and manufactured here. These include the air spring systems from Phoenix Air Spring Technology Kft. The air spring producer has been affiliated to ContiTech Air Spring Systems, a leading manufacturer of air spring systems for trucks, driver cabs, industrial applications and rail vehicles, since 2004.

ContiTech has a total of around 2,800 employees in Hungary working at its sites in Szeged, Makó and Vác. Its parent company, Continental, also operates plants in Budapest and Veszprém, as well as a sales office in Budaörs, with a combined total of 3,100 employees.

Heinz-Gerhard Wente (CEO of ContiTech AG), Hannes Friedrichsen (Head of the ContiTech Air Spring Systems business unit), Dr. Ferenc Kovács (Mayor of Nyíregyháza) and his deputy Timea Kósa were also present at the inauguration celebrations.
