'The entire global Continental team feels especially honored and proud of the award that we received from our valued customer Toyota. It recognizes our successful and innovative efforts to increase traffic safety. As a German technology company with 145 years' experience, we fully support Toyota's quest for the highest quality and safe mobility', said Dr. Elmar Degenhart,Chairman of the Continental Executive Board, who accepted the award at a ceremony held during the Toyota Global Suppliers Convention in Nagoya, Japan.

This annual Technology & Development Award recognizes suppliers whose innovations allow Toyota vehicles to be appealing through the use of the latest technology. Continental received the award for the development of the Multi-Function Camera with Lidar (MFL) which integratesa camera and an infrared Lidar (Light Detection and Ranging Sensor) into a single compact unit. This sensor module is able to detect objects ahead of the vehicle, and when there is a possibility of collision it prompts the driver to brake with an audio and visual alert. If the driver fails to brake in time, the system automatically applies the brakes. In addition to this PCS, MFL is contributing to realizing other active safety functions like LDA and the AHB in the Toyota 'C-Package'.Continental supplies this sensor module for more than ten Toyota models worldwide.

Advanced driver assistance systems(ADAS)help drivers ineverydaysituations and are available in dangerous situations when they warn the driver or intervene if necessary. So they can reduce the number of accidents.ADASrepresentskey technologiesto support the realization of Vision Zero - the Vision of accident-free driving - first and foremost aiming towards zero fatal accidents on the road, followed by the objective of zero injuries and, ultimately, zero accidents at all. The international automotive supplier Continental has been developing and producing safety systems and supplying innovations to car manufacturers worldwide for years. Safety should not be for just the privileged few - in fact it should be an integral component of mobility for everyone.
