Corning Incorporated (NYSE:GLW) announced today that three of its innovative optical communications products received gold-level awards at the annual Cabling Installation & Maintenance Innovators Awards program.

Corning's EDGE8 solutions, ALTOS cable with binderless* FastAccess technology, and ALTOS Lite cable with FastAccess technology, were recognized by a judging panel consisting of cabling and communications system specifiers, designers, integrators, and managers with vast professional experience.

'We are extremely pleased to receive this honor from CI&M for not just one, but three, of our products,' said Kim Hartwell, chief commercial officer, Corning Optical Communications. 'Each of these products plays a part in our mission to enable next-generation networks, and they all represent our commitment to providing customers with new and evolving solutions that address the challenges they see on a daily basis. We are proud that such an experienced panel of judges agrees.'

The EDGE8 solution is the industry's first modular, tip-to-tip optical cabling system to feature a base-8 design for optimal network scalability and improved link performance, while maximizing per-rack-unit density. The complete solution includes housings, modules, adapter panels, trunks, harnesses, jumpers, port breakout modules, tap modules and tap harnesses, secure solutions, and more - all available with tailored configurations to suit the customers' individual needs. EDGE8 solutions reduce the total cost of ownership in today's 10G networks with a flexible, low-risk migration path to 400G.

ALTOS cable with binderless FastAccess technology combines Corning's popular loose tube cable with a FastAccess technology jacket - which can reduce access time by at least 50 percent - and a new, innovative cable construction that eliminates the use of binder yarns and waterblocking tapes. The cable employs an innovative waterblocking powder that is just as effective as traditional waterblocking tapes that installers must cut away during cable entry. Combining these technologies, ALTOS cable with binderless FastAccess technology offers a safer cable preparation and a 70-percent reduction in cable access time when compared to traditional cable offerings.

ALTOS Lite cable with FastAccess technology delivers the crush resistance and rodent protection of an armored cable, along with the enhanced safety, technician-friendliness, and time savings of FastAccess technology. It is the first armored cable that can be opened in the field without sharp-bladed tools. Several enhanced features - FastAccess technology, a new access procedure, protective thin film around the cable core, and waterblocking without tapes - deliver a safer cable preparation and reduced cable access time to network installers.

Alan Bergstein, publisher of Cabling Installation & Maintenance (cablinginstall.com), said: 'This prestigious program allows Cabling Installation & Maintenance to celebrate and recognize the most innovative products and services in the structured cabling industry. Our 2017 Honorees are an outstanding example of companies who are making an impact in the industry.'

The 2017 Cabling Installation & Maintenance Innovators Awards honorees are featured in the November Issue of Cabling Installation & Maintenance magazine as well as on http://www.cablinginstall.com.
