Berry Bros. & Rudd, Britain's oldest wine merchant, is delighted to launch Helix - a unique cork wine bottle closure which does not require a corkscrew - to UK wine lovers.

The 'Helix' closure, which is the result of 4 years of research and development, incorporates 21st century design into the traditional natural cork closure, redesigning the familiar cork stopper and glass bottle partnership. The addition of an internal thread finish in the bottle neck enables a 'twist to open' concept - with no need for corkscrew and maintaining the popular 'pop' noise of the cork leaving the bottle. Helix combines all the benefits of cork and glass - quality, sustainability and premium image with user-friendly, re-sealable convenience.

Berry Bros. & Rudd - Britain's oldest wine merchant, is the UKs first retailer to have wine available in resealable cork bottles. At over 300 years old, while Berry Bros. & Rudd is one of the UK's oldest family-owned businesses, it is keen to ensure it is up to date with the latest trends and innovations. The London located wine & spirit merchant currently has two wines from South Africa bottled under the twisted cork format: Anthonij Rupert Protea Sauvignon Blanc 75cl (RRP £11.95) and Anthonij Rupert Protea Chardonnay 75cl (RRP £11.95).

Katherine Dart MW, wine buyer at Berry Bros. & Rudd comments 'While Berry Bros. & Rudd may be the UKs oldest wine & spirits merchant, we are always keen to embrace the latest trends and innovations. The ergonomically-designed cork together with threads inside the bottle neck ensure an airtight seal and enable effortless opening with a light twist. The bottle is resealable but unlike the screwcap, you still get the all-important cork-out-the-bottle 'pop' and it's also great for reusing and upcycling for anything from water to olive oil.'

Further solidifying its reputation as a pioneer of innovation, Virgin Atlantic Airways is currently pouring wine from a Helix bottle. The Anthonij Rupert Protea Shiraz is currently available on-board Virgin flights until 6th June 2018.

''Since its launch, the revolutionary Helix system has already proved popular not only across Europe but also in the States' adds Carlos de Jesus, Marketing Director at cork producer Amorim, who developed this closure. 'We are delighted that Helix, with its convenient ease-of-opening, and 100% sustainable cork benefits, can now be enjoyed and appreciated by UK consumers too.' The Protea Sauvignon Blanc and Protea Chardonnay are available to buy now from Berry Bros. & Rudd, both in-store and online (bbr.com).
