Ana Pérez-Quiroga Presents a habitable domestic space in the Museum of Art, Architecture and Technology, curated by Pedro Gadanho

Wicanders' flooring and a series of cork-based technical solutions used in APQHome - MAAT

Corticeira Amorim is one of the corporate partners of the project APQHome - MAAT (May 17-October 19) which provides an immersive experience inside the Museum of Art, Architecture and Technology (MAAT). This is Ana Pérez-Quiroga's most extensive artistic project to date, comprised by a domestic area - composed by a house and its objects - and a garden. The project is curated by MAAT's director, Pedro Gadanho.

The artist spent a long period before creating APQHome - MAAT during which she studied the materials that could be successfully used in the project.

For the flooring, the artist chose a solution with a white-toned cork visual, from Wicanders - Amorim Revestimentos' premium brand. According to Ana Pérez-Quiroga, the effect achieved through application of this flooring solution even surpassed her initial expectations: 'Placed longitudinally, the narrow, long planks make the floor seem even longer.' She added: 'It's extremely satisfying to be able to use cork - such a natural, organic material with a reduced environmental impact. '

The use of cork is not limited to the flooring solution from Wicanders. As the artist points out, she used several technical solutions from Amorim Cork Composites, which play a decisive role in the project's viability: 'The cork composites used - ranging from the cork granulates (used in the garden beds or to fill the stools) to the rolls - are exceptional not only because of their formal value, but because in tactile terms they create an irresistible urge to touch them. '

APQHome is a work of 'total art' which aims to involve visitors and requires their intervention. Visitors are invited to take part in a profound immersion during 48-hour periods, in a performance of everyday life, thereby propitiating a fusion between art and life.

In addition to being able to enjoy the space, visitors will also be able to purchase several objects available for sale. After inauguration of the project, the artist Ana Pérez-Quiroga will continue to be associated to the installation. She will organize, prepare and participate in lunches, in which she will foster various conversations about art and life.

During these stays, members of the public will also be able to visit the installation. Around 500 visitors per day are expected, complemented by guided tours and activities conducted by the Educational Service, organized between 12 noon and 8 pm.
