Countryside Properties : ATRIUM BUILDING AT CANNING TOWN EAST CITY POINT TRIUMPHANT AT LONDON LABC BUILDING EXCELLENCE AWARDS 2018

The Atrium Building, designed by Shepheard Epstein Hunter for Countryside's East City Point development (ECP) in Canning Town, has won the 'Best High Volume New Housing Development' at the London LABC Building Excellence Awards 2018.

With views of the London Olympic Legacy Park and the City, The Atrium Building, which provides 92 private homes and 61 identical affordable homes within the same building, forms the focal point of the first phase of East City Point (ECP). All homes have been built to Lifetime Homes' standards, while 10 per cent are suitable for people with disabilities.

The winning development is contemporary in character, featuring a marked contrast between the masonry southern side with paisley patterned balconies and the elegant north-facing glass façade, glass balustrade walkways, bridges and a central winter garden for the shared use of the residents.

Built adjacent to the A13, the building is well sound-proofed and protected from pollution by an innovative glazed wall.

Working in partnership with Newham Council and Affinity Sutton, Countryside has completed a total of 649 mixed-tenure homes at ECP, a new energy centre and invested £7.4m in delivering new buildings at Keir Hardie Primary School.

The Atrium Building was also shortlisted for 'Best Social or Affordable New Housing Development' at the awards.
