Recent research has revealed that we are no longer using outdoor spaces just for gardening, with 63% of Brits revealing that they value their outdoor space as a place to relax, and 40% using the space for spending time as a family[1]. For those who want to maximise their outdoor living, the 'Windham' and 'Whitworth' homes at Countryside's Abode development, in Great Kneighton, Cambridge, offer a multitude of low maintenance outside spaces that are ideal for relaxing, entertaining and al fresco dining with friends and family, without the need for constant maintenance.

For centuries, courtyards have been used to provide tranquil and private spaces for families to relax and spend time together. Both the Windham and the Whitworth feature large courtyards, offering a secure oasis at the heart of the home for residents to spend time outdoors, whilst maintaining upmost privacy. They also include a number of terraces and balconies across three floors. Residents of Abode in Great Kneighton can also enjoy ample outdoor space across the development, including a 120-acre country park, with woodlands, ponds, and play parks.

David Everett, Managing Director of Countryside's New Homes & Communities Central Division comments: 'Many homebuyers do not want the commitment that comes from having a large garden, which tends to require a lot of manual work, and consistent maintenance all year round. The Windham and Whitworth offer the prime opportunity for homeowners to benefit from an impressive range of tranquil outdoor spaces, providing spaces to spend time together as a family, or retreat to at the end of a long day.'

The Windham is an impressive five-bedroom family home, which easily supports busy family life. The ground floor features an expansive open plan kitchen/dining area, with a spacious family room which wraps around the integrated central courtyard. The large courtyard, along with full height windows, French doors and vaulted ceilings ensure the entire home is flooded with natural light. On the first floor is a separate living room, with access to a terrace overlooking the courtyard, and three of the bedrooms including the master suite, which incorporates a dressing area. The top floor features another pair of double bedrooms, both of which benefit from their own private terrace. All of the five bedrooms also have a luxurious en suite bathroom.

The Whitworth is a beautifully designed four-bedroom home, which offers access to three low maintenance outdoor spaces. The ground floor open plan kitchen/dining/family room opens onto the courtyard area, and a home office can also be found on this floor. Two double bedrooms, both with access to private en suite bathrooms are located on the second floor. The impressive separate living room, which boasts a wood burner, can also be found here, with glass doors and full height glazing looking directly out on to the outdoor terrace. The master bedroom is located on the third floor, featuring a luxurious dressing area, and a large en suite bathroom. This floor also features a guest bedroom, and access to a full-sized roof top terrace.

All Countryside homes are built to the highest internal specification. Kitchens are sleek, featuring contemporary gloss handleless units, stone worktops and a range of high quality integrated appliances. Bathrooms and en suites offer the ideal setting to unwind, with classic white sanitary ware, neo-white tiling and chrome detailing. Flooring is also provided throughout the home.

Situated on the southern fringe of the city centre, Abode is part of Great Kneighton, where Countryside is creating over 2,250 new homes and a wide range of community facilities, including a proposed health centre, shops, library, community square, sports pitches, new schools and a public art programme.

Abode is located close to the Great Kneighton access point for the award winning fast-track Cambridgeshire Guided Busway. Providing a five minute journey to the city centre, the Cambridgeshire Guided Busway also links to Cambridge train station. From the train station, there are regular services to London's Liverpool Street and King's Cross stations, as well as to Stansted Airport. By car, the M11 is only a few minutes away.

Prices for the four bedroom Whitworth house-type start at £1,150,000. The Windham five bedroom property is available from £1,250,000. The Windham and Whitworth show homes, and the marketing suite, are open seven days a week, between 10am and 5pm. For more information on Abode visit www.abodecambridge.co.uk or call 01223 846 650.
