Countryside Properties : PLANTING MASTERCLASS IN LONDON’S FAVOURITE VILLAGE

A lack of garden doesn't mean you have to miss out on the benefits of plants and flowers at home.

At Greenwich Millennium Village (GMV), Countryside and Taylor Wimpey partnered up with the Greenwich Cooperative Development Agency (GCDA) to deliver a planting masterclass for residents. We provided them with the tools to help unleash their inner gardeners and make London's favourite village bloom.

Our 'Balconies in Bloom' masterclass on Sunday, 20 May attracted a diverse and vibrant crowd - ranging from young families to retirees and single professionals. However, most of these people had something in common - they liked the idea of balcony gardening but weren't sure where to start.

Debbie, one of the residents who moved to GMV three years ago, said: 'Lately I have been travelling a lot, and so planting hasn't been a priority'. But now that Debbie and her husband Craig have a bit more time, they don't mind dedicating some of it to creating a little urban oasis on their balcony.

Planting enthusiast Roxana brought her family to the masterclass hoping to learn some tricks. 'We have about 25 different plants in our home, but we're not professional gardeners, so we thought we'd come to this event to learn how to plant properly.'

Seasoned gardeners Kevin Godby and his colleague Liz McCormack from the GCDA shared some insights: 'We've been asked a lot of different questions, however, the most common ones were related to the frequency of watering and the plants' lifecycle.

'It all depends on the plant, of course…Busy Lizzies or Impatiens have been the most popular choice among the GMV residents today.

'These cheerful plants are very low maintenance, so would be a good starting point for anyone'.
