Phase 1A at South Oxhey Central has been awarded 43 out of 50 by The Considerate Constructors Scheme (CCS), well above the industry average of 36.

Countryside, one of the leading home builders specialising in placemaking and urban regeneration, working in partnership with Home Group, one of the UK's largest providers of new homes for sale and affordable rent, is regenerating an 11-acre site in South Oxhey, Hertfordshire, delivering 514 new homes, public realm and retail space.

The CCS is a not-for-profit, independent organisation founded in 1997 by the construction industry to encourage best practice beyond statutory requirements. Construction sites, companies and suppliers voluntarily register with the CCS and agree to abide by the Code of Considerate Practice.

Concerned with any area of construction activity that may have a direct or indirect impact on the image of the industry as a whole, the main areas of concern for the CCS fall into three categories: the general public, the workforce and the environment.

The Executive Summary notes for Countryside's South Oxhey development said: 'The contractor has made an outstanding effort to engage with the community and changed opinions about the development… [through] a careful and considerate approach to bringing change to the area, setting an exceptional example of community engagement to introduce and lead people through the difficult experience of bringing change to their lives. An outstanding CSR plan has assisted the process.'

Daniel King, Development Director for West London at Countryside Partnerships South, commented: 'We take pride in ensuring that all of our developments are of a very high standard, not only meeting the required standards for the CCS but focusing on the wellbeing of local residents, the wider community and our employees. It is fantastic to have received such a high score for Phase 1A at South Oxhey and we look forward to building on this feedback to attain the same if not higher, at the next opportunity.'

Joe Richardson, Head of Delivery for Home Group, added: 'It's great to be working with a partner that clearly recognises its responsibilities, not just in creating buildings and spaces, but also in how it goes about doing so. Our shared commitment to excellence lies behind this high score.'
