SEATTLE, WA--(Marketwired - Sep 8, 2014) - Global supercomputer leader Cray Inc. (
"Cray is focused on designing and building supercomputing systems that deliver sustained and scalable performance improvements on real-world codes and applications, and incorporating the new Intel Xeon processors will strengthen our Cray XC and CS offerings," said Barry Bolding, Cray's vice president of marketing and business development. "Advanced processing technology is a key component of our high-end supercomputers and cluster solutions, and our next generation systems will provide our customers a compelling combination of advanced Intel processors and powerful Cray supercomputers."
"The new Intel Xeon processor E5-2600 v3 product family delivers significant performance, power efficiency, and innovations in IO and memory that are designed to support the advanced, scalable applications running in the leading high performance computing centers around the world," said Charles Wuischpard, vice president Data Center Group and general manager of Workstations and HPC, Intel. "We are pleased that Cray has chosen the Intel Xeon processors to power the next generation of the Cray XC supercomputers and Cray CS cluster supercomputers and are looking forward to the unprecedented breakthroughs by researchers, scientists, and engineers enabled by these latest advances."
The Cray XC series of supercomputers are engineered to meet the performance challenges of today's most demanding high performance computing (HPC) users. Special features of the Cray XC series of supercomputers include: the Aries system interconnect; a Dragonfly network topology that frees applications from locality constraints; innovative cooling systems to lower customers' total cost of ownership; the next-generation of the scalable, high performance Cray Linux Environment supporting a wide range of applications; Cray's HPC optimized programming environment, and the ability to handle a wide variety of processor types.
The Cray CS series of cluster supercomputers are scalable, flexible systems that group optimized, industry-standard building block server platforms into a unified, fully-integrated system. Available with air or liquid-cooled architectures, the Cray CS systems provide superior price/performance, energy efficiency and configuration flexibility. The systems are integrated with Cray's HPC software stack and include software tools compatible with most open source and commercial compilers, schedulers, and libraries. The Cray CS systems also feature the Cray Advanced Cluster Engine, an essential management software suite designed to provide network, server, cluster and storage management capabilities that are necessary to run large, complex technical applications.
