The Launch of Financial Services for the Agricultural Sector in Cambodia


Idemitsu Credit Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Sumida-ku, Tokyo; President: Kaoru Hashimoto) established its local subsidiary Idemitsu Saison Microfinance (Cambodia) Plc in Battambang, the Kingdom of Cambodia, and will launch its financing services and installment payment services, mainly for the agricultural sector.


The Cambodian government places the highest priority on the modernization of agriculture, which is the country's key industry, and the improvement of farmers' living standards. It stipulated its policy of doubling rice production volumes and increasing rice exports by tenfold within five years in the Rice Policy it published in 2010, and is implementing the policy.


Based on this policy, companies and agricultural extension NGOs in Cambodia are implementing and expanding farming contracts and extension activities with and for agricultural producers. These activities are accelerating the growth of the agricultural sector in the country.


In light of the above situation, Idemitsu Credit Co., Ltd. established its local subsidiary Idemitsu Saison Microfinance (Cambodia) Plc and obtained a microfinance business license from the National Bank of Cambodia on January 20, in order to meet the financing demands of agricultural producers and thereby contribute to the improvement of the living standards of Cambodians and the economic development of Cambodia.


Idemitsu Credit Co., Ltd. will provide financing services and installment payment services for individual goods that meet various financial needs mainly in the agricultural sector in Cambodia, through collaboration with Idemitsu Kosan Co.,Ltd.and Credit Saison Co.,Ltd.which are the investors in Idemitsu Credit Co., Ltd..
