The sale of the final penthouse apartment at Bath's leading property development reflects the changing fortunes across the city's property scene.

Less than a decade ago those wanting to live in the centre of Bath were restricted to Georgian period properties, primarily located in the BA1 postcode.

The development of Bath Riverside has however completed changed the dynamic of what's available in the world heritage city and has given discerning house hunters the option to now buy new.

A good example of how the property market has shifted can be seen following the sale of the three penthouse apartments in Royal View and clearly demonstrates that demand is there for high-end properties, providing the right type is available.

Danielle Simpson from Crest Nicholson said: 'The sale of the last Royal View penthouse reveals the contrasting fortunes of the current Bath property scene.

'People coming into the city now have more choice, whereas less than a decade ago there were very limited options in terms of anything new within the confines of the city centre.

'This wasn't helped by the fact that the availability of stylish new properties in keeping with the Georgian style made famous by Bath architects Ralph Allen and John Wood back in the 18th Century were few and far between.

'However all that has now changed and means house hunters wanting something completely brand new and close to the city centre can consider Bath Riverside.

'And as the development continues to evolve and mature it will become home to many more Bath residents. One of the best accolades the development has received is that some people who originally opposed the development are now residents here.'

Extending from the restored Victoria Bridge and beyond the brand new Destructor Bridge on the south side of the River Avon, the development is creating a new quarter in-keeping with the modern demands of the city and providing a place where people can live, work and enjoy their leisure time.

With Bath city centre a pleasant 10 minute stroll away via the pedestrian tow path residents can enjoy all that the historic city has to offer without using a car, while commuters can hop on a main line train to Bristol or London.

Danielle added: 'Buying new is the more beneficial option as there are more advantages. There are fewer risks which brings peace of mind.

'The first thing to note is that new properties are more energy efficient with modern heating systems and higher levels of insulation. Stricter regulations in recent years mean that homes now have to meet high standards of efficiency, leading to lower running costs.

'It's been very interesting to see people's reactions when they visit the development for the first time. Our advice is if you're looking to move then give Bath Riverside a visit, you won't be disappointed.

'Bath isn't just about classic Georgian anymore and there's a new kid on the block that has opened up the door for those wanting modern, city-centre living.'
