Croda, who create, make and sell innovative, sustainable, high performance speciality chemicals that are relied on by industries and consumers everywhere has this month been awarded EcoVadis Gold Status for the fourth time.

Improving its score year on year, 2018 sees Croda again placed in the top 1% of all chemical companies assessed by EcoVadis and the top 1% of all companies assessed by the sustainability platform, with a score of 83/100. EcoVadis' assessment methodology scores Croda as 'outstanding' in environmental and labour practices, together with 'advanced' in its sustainable procurement practices.

The continuing score improvement reflects Croda's evolution of policies and procedures toward best practice, as well as making these more readily accessible externally. This has improved its 2017 labour practices score from 'advanced' to 'outstanding'.

Commenting on the assessment Chris Sayner, Vice President of Customer Alliances at Croda said: "EcoVadis is recognised as an increasingly important guide for customers across many industries in judging suppliers' sustainability credentials."

"At Croda, we use EcoVadis as one of the leading external references for continual improvement, achieving Gold Status with the first of our four filings we have increased our score by 21 points from 62 to 83. Whilst a score of 83/100 is the highest amongst our peers, we are determined to progress further."

Currently, around two thirds of Croda's raw materials come from renewable sources and this is set to increase in 2018 with the commissioning of a new pioneering facility in North America producing 100% bio-based surfactants. The plant will give Croda's customers access to the new 'ECO' range, enabling them to meet consumer demands for increasingly environmentally friendly products.
