Crown Resorts : China hands Crown Resorts employees short jail terms - official

SHANGHAI (Reuters) - A Chinese court sentenced three Australian employees of casino operator Crown Resorts Ltd to short jail terms on Monday, an Australian diplomat said, but they will have little time left to serve as the sentences run from the date of their detention last October.

The embassy official said Crown's head of international VIP gambling Jason O'Connor was given a ten month sentence, while two other Australians were handed nine month sentences.

The ruling is a major step towards closing a case that has forced Melbourne-based Crown to abandon its strategy of luring Chinese high rollers to the casino hub of Macau and instead shift its focus back home.

Crown Resorts Limited is an entertainment company. It owns and operates a suite of integrated resorts. The Company operates through two segments: Crown Aspinalls and Crown Digital. The Company's property portfolio includes London's prestigious Crown Aspinalls, a boutique casino in the West End. It offers guests a range of entertainment and event experiences; premium hospitality, dining, spa and retail; and gaming. Its Western Australia's only integrated resort and casino and features a combined approximately 1188 hotel-room capacity, expansive lagoon and private pools, and 33 bars and restaurants. The Crown Digital segment includes wagering and online social gaming operations comprising Betfair Australasia and DGN Games and Chill Gaming. Betfair Australasia provides access for Australian and New Zealand customers to the betting exchange. DGN Games is a developer of online social and casual games. DGN's game titles include Old Vegas Slots and Lucky Time Slots.
