CSR plc (LSE: CSR; NASDAQ: CSRE) today announces that its Direct Digital Feedback Amplifier (DDFA)™  platform has been selected for use in Denon's PMA-50 digital compact Hi-Fi amplifier. The product, to be released in January 2015, uses CSR's DDFA at its core to provide world leading sound quality in a compact and elegant design. The PMA-50 also supports a range of high performance digital input formats, including CSR's aptX® Low Latency codec for CD-like performance while allowing consumers to watch video and listen to wireless audio in a synchronised fashion over Bluetooth®.

DDFA technology, implemented in the CSRA6601/CSRA6600 chipset, is founded on its patented digital feedback technique, which corrects the distorting influences present in all digital Class D switching amplifiers which would normally compromise performance.  DDFA delivers the high efficiency of Class D, with the fidelity of high end linear amplifiers. As a result, the PMA-50 delivers a high quality listening experience for the user, all within a compact and flexible product.

The PMA-50 also features CSR Bluetooth connectivity and is equipped with aptX Low Latency. In order to fit within the Bluetooth 'pipe' and transmit wirelessly, audio needs to use a bit rate reduction technique. CSR's aptX audio technology uses a non-destructive solution to ensure the audio is transmitted over Bluetooth's available bandwidth. It replicates the entire frequency range of the audio, maintaining CD-like quality over the Bluetooth connection and ensures that users can hear everything as the artist originally intended. With widespread adoption of aptX technology in tablets and smartphones, leading consumer electronics manufacturers, like Denon, are adding the technology to their products to allow their customers the freedom of wireless audio streaming without compromising on audio quality.

"Our customers expect the highest performance and quality" said Achim Schulz, Senior Product Manager at Denon. "CSR's DDFA and aptX has allowed us to create the immersive audio experience our customers crave and with their innovative technology we can offer the best performance while ensuring we could maintain a slimline design. They were, therefore, the natural choices for us to include in the PMA-50."

The PMA-50 supports a range of digital input formats, aligning with the digital trend for audio sources. DDFA's inclusion in the all-digital processing architecture of the PMA-50 removes the need for a digital to analogue converter, eliminating the performance loss associated with this process.

Anthony Murray, Senior Vice President, Business Group, at CSR, said; "Our DDFA platform and aptX codec offer customers a complete, high performance, transport and processing chain for a variety of audio products including wireless and wired active speakers, speaker docks and soundbars. Denon's use of our platforms in this high end product demonstrates that we provide best in class solutions and are the clear choice for high performance."
