California United Bank (“CUB” or “the Company”), a subsidiary of CU Bancorp (NASDAQ: CUNB), today announced it will be a title sponsor for the third annual “Evening of Hope: Imagine the Possibilities” gala held by Support for Harbor Area Women’s Lives (SHAWL) on May 22, 2014, at the Point Vicente Interpretive Center in Palos Verdes, Calif.

The annual event is SHAWL’s largest fundraiser, which supports the organization’s mission to provide comprehensive services to homeless women who are affected by drug and alcohol addiction, and physical and emotional abuse. “SHAWL provides shelter for homeless women in the most challenging situations, but more than that, the program gives them the tools needed to reintegrate into society and become self-sufficient. By the time they leave SHAWL, 95 percent of our women have a job or are attending school,” said Emily Hamilton, Senior Vice President, Human Resources Director at California United Bank and SHAWL Board President.

“CUB’s support has played a major role in our success at helping women in recovery,” said Laurie Whalen-Martinez, Executive Director of SHAWL. “In addition to their generosity, the financial advice and stewardship they’ve provided us has been integral in accomplishing SHAWL’s mission—it’s a very rewarding relationship.”

In addition to its six-month residential recovery program, SHAWL also provides transitional housing facilities through the Haviland House and The Cottages, where residents can live for an additional 18 months while working or attending school. The Cottages allow women to be reunited with their children while they continue their recovery.

Guests at the gala will enjoy hors d’oeuvres from Chicken Maison and the award-winning wines of Shadow Run Vineyards, accompanied by live music and the spectacular, sweeping ocean views of Point Vicente. For more information contact Laurie Whalen-Martinez at (213) 500-4150.
