CyrusOne (NASDAQ: CONE), a global colocation solutions provider, today announced that it has signed an alliance agreement with the U.S. subsidiary of software-based elastic connectivity provider Megaport Limited (ASX: MP1) (Megaport) to deliver SDN-enabled, elastic cloud interconnection services in CyrusOne data centers in the United States.

Under the agreement, Megaport becomes a key provider of elastic interconnection services using the existing CyrusOne National IX (Internet Exchange) combined with SDN-enabled software from Megaport to serve the extensive CyrusOne Fortune 1000 customer base. This alliance expands Megaport’s services to new locations in markets that include Austin, Dallas, Chicago, Cincinnati, Houston, Phoenix, Sterling (Northern Virginia), and San Antonio, among others.

Megaport’s fabric enables CyrusOne customers with the ability to right-size their capacity by scaling bandwidth up and down with flexible terms. Customers can access multiple service providers over the fabric and manage direct, multi-cloud connectivity through APIs or via the Megaport portal.

This announcement comes as Megaport has completed installation of its first-phase core footprint in the United States. The Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles, New York City, Northern Virginia, Seattle, and Silicon Valley metros are live for services. The core footprint provides day-one access to customers and enables interconnection with key cloud and network service partners. Megaport is a Microsoft ExpressRoute connectivity provider and Amazon AWS Technology Partner as well as Amazon AWS Direct Connect partner.

Megaport Chief Executive Officer Denver Maddux said the alliance provides a boost to the company’s rapid expansion goals. According to Maddux, “Our elastic fabric brings a whole new dimension to the growing demand for interconnectivity and peering services market by delivering more dynamic connectivity capabilities. CyrusOne’s U.S. data center portfolio complements our neutral interconnection fabric extremely well and rapidly expands our footprint in the United States.”

“We are excited to facilitate this ground-breaking agreement with Megaport,” said Gary Wojtaszek, president and CEO, CyrusOne. “The ability to leverage CyrusOne’s National IX platform as an enabler and on-ramp to Megaport’s cloud providers creates the perfect cloud connectivity solution for our customers. We are excited to work with the team at Megaport, who carry the same entrepreneurial spirit that we have at CyrusOne.”
