Daihatsu Motor Co., Ltd. ("Daihatsu") is pleased to announce that the Tanto mini passenger car as well as the Tanto Sloper and Tanto Welcome Seat welfare vehicles, which went on sales on November 30, 2016 equipped with Smart Assist III, have earned the ASV++ *1 rating in the 2016 JNCAP *2 preventative safety performance assessment conducted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism and the National Agency for Automotive Safety & Victims' Aid (NASVA). This marks the first time Daihatsu has attained the highest rating for its vehicles.

The recommended retail price of the ASV++ rated Tanto starts at 1,285,200 yen *3.

The preventative safety performance assessment commenced in 2014 to address the growing needs for a safe motorized society. The assessment tests the conventional Autonomous Emergency Braking System (AEBS, for other-vehicle avoidance), Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS) and Back View Information Monitoring System (rear-view monitors, etc.), and with the addition of the Autonomous Emergency Braking System (AEBS) for pedestrian avoidance from 2016, a total of four systems are now tested.

71 points is the maximum score. In each assessment, if the point total is two or more a vehicle is recognized as an Advanced Safety Vehicle (ASV). If the point total is 12 or more, a vehicle is given the designation Advanced Safety Vehicle Plus (ASV+). When the point total is 46 or more, a vehicle is certified as Advanced Safety Vehicle Plus-Plus (ASV++). Among Daihatsu mini passenger cars, the Move and Cast mini passenger cars, which are equipped with Smart Assist II, were certified for the ASV+ designation in the 2015 assessments. In the latest 2016 assessment, the Tanto earned the ASV++ designation for the first time.

Daihatsu will continue to develop optimum advanced equipment for small cars, and deliver peace of mind and safety to even more customers through its affordable offerings.
