Hanover - When it comes to maximum efficiency and safety, Daimler's commercial vehicle brands answer the questions that companies and drivers ask. The slogan for the 2014 International Commercial Vehicle show (IAA) in Hanover, Germany, is "Driving the future". No-one embodies this objective better than Daimler's commercial vehicle brands - the company is the world's leading manufacturer of urban delivery vans through to heavy haulage vehicles. The slogan applies to the latest ranges from Mercedes-Benz, Setra and Fuso, and also to Daimler's take on the near future: the Mercedes-Benz Future Truck 2025. This spectacular study demonstrates just how efficient, safe, networked and autonomous the transportation of goods is set to become in around ten years' time.

In Hall 14/15, Daimler will be showcasing the state of the art on a stand covering some 10,000 square metres and with more than 60 trucks, vans, buses and coaches from Mercedes-Benz, Setra and Fuso, as well as numerous other exhibits. The individual brands appear separately within the shared space.

Focus on TCO: minimal costs, maximum performance

Daimler's appearance at the 2014 International Commercial Vehicle show (IAA) focuses on technology leadership in each segment. The focus is on serving customers' needs to the full. When it comes to commercial vehicles, there are three letters that express this most clearly: TCO (Total Cost of Ownership). Whether for Mercedes-Benz, Setra or Fuso - minimising costs is the key focus combined with maximising efficiency and performance. For Mercedes-Benz Trucks especially, the TCO issue is the main consideration: investment and financing, fuel consumption, servicing and residual value. Low fuel consumption also affects another area because it is synonymous with protecting the environment by virtue of low CO2emissions.

Trucks for the world: exciting trucks from North America and Asia

The Group's global presence, the interconnected nature of its brands and components, and the way major assemblies are aligned precisely to the requirements of specific regions will be immediately apparent to visitors to the "Trucks for the World" zone, where three exhibits await at the entrance from Hall 16: the Western Star, BharatBenz 3143 and Fuso HDT-2528R LHD are examples of exciting trucks for different continents.

The spectacular North American Truck of the Western Star brand is a visual tour de force and above all, a real movie hero: he plays the leading role in Paramount Pictures' film Transformers: Age of Extinction as OPTIMUS PRIME. The truck includes many of the stylistic elements of the new aerodynamic Western Star serial model type 5700, which will be unveiled in the fall of this year and available to customers in the USA in 2015.

The mighty BharatBenz 3143 is spectacular in a totally different way. With two driven rear axles and as a rigid four-axle vehicle, Daimler's Indian subsidiary has developed a truck with an enormous permissible gross vehicle weight of 48 t. Its engine - the proven Mercedes-Benz OM 457 six-cylinder in-line engine with a displacement of 12 l - is well-known in Europe, North and South America, as well as in Asia.

The third truck on show is the perfect example of global integration in action at Daimler Trucks: a rigid, three-axle Fuso HDT-2528R from the FJ model series. The Japanese brand's truck is also produced in India by Daimler India Commercial Vehicles (DICV). Aficionados will note that the cab harks back to the proven Mercedes-Benz Axor. The Fuso 6S20 engine is based on the Mercedes-Benz OM 906 LA with 6.4-litre displacement, while the six-speed manual transmission is sold in Europe as the Mercedes G85-6.

63 trucks, buses and vans on display in Hall 14/15

An impressive panorama awaits you when you enter the hall: 63 trucks, vans and buses reflect the world of commercial vehicles as presented by Mercedes-Benz, Setra and Fuso. To be precise, there are 17 Mercedes-Benz trucks, four Mercedes-Benz special trucks, 22 Mercedes-Benz vans, six Mercedes-Benz buses, seven Setra buses and seven Fuso Canter vehicles.

Although each brand appears separately, vehicles from the three brands are displayed in a semicircular arrangement so that anyone can straightaway and easily find their preferred brand and vehicle segment. Stand design, flooring, colours, background decoration and skyline walls are specific to each brand.

Highlights and world premieres stand out

The highlights of each brand and segment are featured in prominent positions. For Fuso, this means the Canter with a permissible gross vehicle weight of 8.55 t and the new Canter E-Cell manufactured in Europe with a completely electric drive system. Mercedes-Benz Vans is celebrating the public premiere of the new Vito and showcasing the panel van, Mixto and Tourer - augmented by their own stage show.

For the Mercedes-Benz Bus and Coach unit, the focus is on the Travego premium, high-deck touring coach. The Safety Coach combines all the safety systems that are currently available. Another highlight is the articulated Citaro G urban, regular-service bus, which is parked outside the hall for reasons of space. Mercedes-Benz Special Trucks is focusing on premiering the Econic NGT with natural gas drive, a landmark for "green" drive systems, to the German public. Setra is highlighting the world premiere of the ComfortClass MD and the new length variants - the ComfortClass S 511 HD and ComfortClass S 519 HD.

The spectacular Mercedes-Benz Future Truck 2025 study

No visitor to the hall will be able to overlook the piece de resistance from Daimler Trucks, right in their line of sight: the Mercedes-Benz Future Truck 2025. The study is positioned on a platform opposite the entrance with a wall of LEDs to illuminate it. The Future Truck 2025 demonstrates how goods will be transported tomorrow: it drives autonomously on motorways - a revolution for truck drivers and business owners, for truck technology and the cab interior, as well as for the road transport system. "Driving the future" - no other exhibit echoes the slogan for the 2014 International Commercial Vehicle show (IAA) more perfectly than the Future Truck 2025.

As well as being a technical marvel the tractor unit is also visually compelling: with its rounded, aerodynamically optimised form the study showcases the possibilities and scopes of freedom in truck design that future European length restrictions will open up in terms of safety and economy. Lighting design featuring LEDs underscores the unique capabilities of this truck of tomorrow.

TechLane: varied exhibits and interactive stations

The TechLane is a must-see for all visitors to Hall 14/15. As a separate exhibition zone it leads through the Mercedes-Benz area for commercial vehicles and is marked out by a special floor covering, as well as a canopy. Mercedes-Benz Trucks, Vans and the Bus and Coach unit are using exhibits and interactive stations to explain their technology leadership and topics relating to TCO, safety and sustainability.

As well as learning about technical issues along the TechLane, visitors can find out about TCO-related topics such as Mercedes-Benz Bank, CharterWay, FleetBoard, ProfiTraining, Mercedes-Benz Service, Mercedes ServiceCard and TruckStore. Visitors will not simply be left alone, however: not far from the TechLane, for example, TV presenter Claudia Kleinert will be explaining the particularities of TCO as regards Mercedes-Benz Trucks.

Fuso and Setra will be promoting their specific topics in their signature brand styles. For Fuso that is the drive system on the Canter Eco Hybrid truck - the first hybrid truck to pay off economically. On the stand opposite, visitors will be able to seek advice from the Setra design team and revel in the various materials, fabrics and colours available for buses and coaches.

A multifaceted presence even outside the exhibition hall

Daimler has a presence outside Hall 14/15 in various ways. Attractive show and promotion trucks can be seen directly outside the entrance. The BusStore is nearby, presenting its Europe-wide offering of high-grade, pre-owned buses along with its extensive range of services.

Mercedes-Benz Bank has set up residence in the Mercedes-Benz Pavilion. The new Mercedes-Benz V-Class can be seen outside the pavilion. TruckWorks - the one-stop service provider for trucks, semitrailers, trailers, and bodies at authorised Mercedes-Benz dealerships - can also be found outside.

Complementing this is the extended portfolio from TrailerAxleSystems. These axles for semitrailers and trailers can be found with vehicle components in Hall 26.

FleetBoard is not just demonstrating the effectiveness of its telematics systems for trucks and buses in Hall 14/15: outside Hall 11 there is a show truck inviting visitors to familiarise themselves with the various telematics services.

Outdoor practice area at Laatzen: experience trucks, vans, buses and coaches live

Anyone wanting to truly experience and intensively test the Group's numerous new products and features will have the opportunity to do so during the IAA show. Just a few minutes away from the exhibition site visitors are able to try out trucks, vans and buses on the driving practice area at Laatzen - either as a passenger or behind the wheel.
