First time a CIO from an Asian organisation has won

DBS' Chief Information Officer, David Gledhill, was the 2017 recipient of the prestigious Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Sloan CIO Leadership Award at the university's symposium yesterday. He pipped CIOs from various US-headquartered and European companies, becoming the first CIO from an Asian company to have won.

Over the past decade, the award has honoured CIOs who have led their organisations to deliver exemplary levels of business value through innovative use of IT. Past winners include CIOs from AT&T Services and Schindler Group.

'The MIT Sloan CIO Symposium Awards Committee is proud to present David Gledhill of DBS Bank with the 2017 CIO Leadership Award,' said Dr. George Westerman of MIT's Initiative on the Digital Economy and Co-Chair of the Award Programme. 'While we received many strong nominations for this award, Mr. Gledhill rose to the top in delivering business value through reimagining the use of IT.'

Said Gledhill, 'Winning the MIT Sloan CIO Leadership Award is a great honour, and is testament to the bank's collective efforts in reimagining banking for our customers. From leveraging new technologies to changing the culture and mindset of our people, this has truly been a rewarding journey to make banking faster and more intuitive for our customers. Winning this award from MIT, an organisation that is at the forefront of driving innovation, is a great encouragement to all of us at DBS.'

Gledhill manages about 10,000 professionals across Asia and is focused on strengthening the bank's technology and infrastructure platform to drive greater resilience, organisational flexibility and innovation. Executing against DBS' strategy to be at the forefront of digital transformation, he plays a lead role in driving the bank's innovation agenda. His portfolio includes the group's operations, which are focused on reimagining customer journeys and the way business is supported, so as to make banking simpler and more effortless for customers. He has 25 years of experience in the financial services industry, and prior to joining DBS in 2008, he worked at J.P. Morgan, holding senior regional positions in Technology & Operations. At DBS, he is also the Director of Singapore Clearing House, a member of an IBM Advisory Board and the National Super Computing Centre Steering Committee, and a board advisor to the Singapore Management University School of Information Systems.

MIT was ranked the top university in the world in the 2016 QS World University Rankings. The MIT Sloan CIO Symposium is the premier global conference for CIOs and digital business executives.
