Los Angeles, California: DDD Group plc (AIM: DDD; OTCQX: DDDGY), the advanced imaging company, announces that its subsidiary GenMe Inc. has launched the innovative new UPix™ social photography app in the Google Play™ store.

UPix simplifies and improves the process of creating the ideal selfie by allowing the user to capture the optimal shot of the background scene with the rear-facing camera and then overlaying their selfie image in the best position which is separately captured with the user or front-facing camera. UPix uses the company's latest background replacement technologies to automatically remove the background from the image taken with the front facing camera so that only the user's head and shoulders remain for integration with the background scene.

The UPix app includes intuitive touch screen controls allowing the user to position and resize their head and shoulder image in the best position in front of the background scene providing the ultimate in selfie composition. To accommodate differences in lighting between the rear and front facing cameras, UPix includes the ability to adjust the colour and contrast of the two images for a natural looking picture. The app also allows the user to save their favourite headshots for re-use on future selfies.

In a unique first, UPix also makes selfies interactive, allowing friends to add themselves into the original selfie and share it on. The interactive selfies, or 'groupies', are created by downloading and using the original selfie as the UPix background and using UPix to add a second person's head and shoulder selfie into the original picture before saving it and re-sharing it. The UPix app allows others to become part of the groupie at any time and from anywhere in the world.

UPix also enables the creation of virtual selfies, where fans can create and share selfies with their favorite musicians, actors and sports stars. With the continual growth in the use of social media with television shows and films, this creates a closer bond between the stars and their fans all over the world.

With Google estimating that more than 93 million selfies are created and shared every day, UPix is available to a global audience of well over one billion Android mobile device owners. The UPix app is currently compatible with Android 4.0 and later, representing over 97% of the devices serviced by the Google Play store.

The beta release of UPix is now available as a free download from the Google Play store. An in-app purchase of $0.99 allows the UPix watermark to be removed from selfies created with the app.

Chris Yewdall, Chief Executive of DDD, said:

'UPix is a highly innovative mobile app that targets millions of users globally who are creating and sharing digital selfies on social media every day. With UPix, users can now create the perfect selfie without having to worry about clumsy selfie sticks or whether their faces are shaded by the position of sun or ambient lighting.

UPix also makes photography social for the first time, by allowing your friends to become part of the moment even though they aren't physically there.

UPix is the latest solution for the burgeoning Generation Me audience that we have built around our newest, patent-protected, real time background removal technologies.'

The company is presently developing an iOS version of the UPix app which it expects to launch in the Spring of 2016 for owners of Apple iPhone® and iPad® devices.
