The Mooresville Park and Recreation District Board elected new officers and heard reports from the superintendent and assistant superintendent at Monday night's meeting.
Mark Taylor was reappointed president and Perry King retained the position of secretary; both were nominated by David Pearson. Former vice president Pearson was replaced in his role by Danny Shaw, also nominated by Pearson.
The board also approved minutes for the Dec. 11 meeting.
Superintendent Brent Callahan reported that invasive species were being cleared out of the Pioneer Park woods by maintenance crews. He stated that they were using an excavator with a grinder attachment.
Callahan also reported that the park board had received a quantity purchasing agreement price for a John Deere replacement mower. The Mooresville Park District currently has a John Deere 1445 mower that is 9 years old. The final cost of the John Deer 1570 replacement mower would be $22,193.86.
Assistant superintendent Kris Wilson informed the board that, according to a review from Chuck Lehman, it would be inadvisable for the park board to do an impact fee study for Brown or Madison townships at this time.
Wilson also spoke on the park boards upcoming programs, including the Daddy Daughter Date Night to be held Feb. 17 at Mooresville High School and the Mother Son Dance to be held March 17 at Neil Armstrong Elementary School.
Callahan informed the board that Dan Luedeman would be taking a certified pool operator course in Roachdale on Jan. 24 and 25. Callahan also reported that the park board's five-year master plan would expire in 2018 and said the board needed to begin working on the 2019-2023 plan.
Callahan also stated that Christmas trees could be dropped off by Mooresville residents at Old Town Park until the end of January.
The board acknowledged a donation from the Langley family on behalf of Byron Elmendorf and thanked them for the contribution.
The next meeting of the Mooresville Park and Recreation District Board will be at 7 p.m.Feb. 12 at the Mooresville Park Office, 1101 N. Indianapolis Road.
