• Dell first to market with cloud management solution support for both Windows Azure Pack and Microsoft Azure public cloud, as well as other leading public and private clouds
  • New custom catalog capability dramatically reduces deployment time for curated applications and services across clouds
  • New automated scaling and recovery feature enhances single-pane-of-glass console for centralized management of distributed cloud applications and services across multiple IaaS clouds

Dell Software today announced the newest release of DellCloud Manager , offering midsize-to-large enterprise businesses the power and confidence to easily manage the deployment and consumption of distributed cloud applications and services across the organization, all from an intuitive, single-pane-of-glass management console.

Dell Cloud Manager v11 features new state-of-the-art distributed blueprint support based on the TOSCA standard, simplifying portability and management of cloud applications and services throughout their lifecycle. New support for Windows Azure Pack and enhanced support for Microsoft Azure give Microsoft customers the first independent unified solution to centrally manage their combined private and public cloud environments. New automated scaling and recovery capabilities also provide added efficiency, helping to better satisfy service level requirements.

Today's IT operations groups are tasked with becoming service providers to internal - and sometimes external - clients, and must actively partner with developers and business users to deliver the business agility they require, while still maintaining governance and control.

As more organizations adopt a hybrid or multi-cloud business model utilizing various IaaS clouds to meet different requirements, IT departments are faced with the new challenge of having to manage access, spending and consumption of cloud services across multiple platforms. Dell Cloud Manager provides a unified management console from which IaaS cloud services and applications can be easily managed and delivered - while adhering to governance requirements - giving users secure, fast access to the services they need to conduct business. In addition, role-based access controls allow the allocation of specific levels of access within one or more clouds to development, QA, and others - even external clients.

The solution also balances the needs of developers and IT operations by giving IT the ability to manage cloud and cloud resource access, as well as track usage and spending, while developers gain self-service provisioning, access to a catalog of applications and the ability to connect to the tools they need, including native integration with Chef and Puppet. Cloud Manager helps business users contain costs by enabling the organization to estimate cloud costs before incurring them, and then track ongoing costs and limit spending according to specific budget requirements. Additionally, Cloud Manager enables application auto-scaling and auto-healing based on user-defined policies, resulting in more efficient use of cloud resources and more reliable application or service performance.

Dell Cloud Manager addresses cloud environment needs of today, and prepares organizations for future growth

According to a Forrester Research study commissioned by Dell, "Hybrid cloud is not only the future - it's here today. Fifty two percent of North American enterprises now use two or more public cloud providers. Hybrid cloud offers a myriad of benefits to organizations, but it comes with a new set of challenges caused by complexity and lack of integration and visibility across different cloud services. IT decision-makers are recognizing the need for a cloud management solution that provides monitoring, governance and control, and visibility into security and performance, and integrates a wide range of cloud solutions through a unified portal."1 Dell Cloud Manager v11 provides functionality to those developing and operating cloud-based applications in three key areas:

  • Agility: Provides an environment that encourages operation of complex distributed applications through self-service (with "guardrails") and automation. Designed to be complimentary to existing Azure and WAP services, as well as other leading public and private clouds, Cloud Manager v11 delivers ease of use while supporting a wide variety of software stacks that can't be automated in Azure today.
  • Governance: Offershighly granular role-based access controls for applications deployed and operated with Dell Cloud Manager, allowing administrators to carefully regulate who can take what actions, and in which context. Budget controls add an additional "backstop" to over-spending and provide alerts when either soft or hard thresholds are reached.
  • Choice: Provides nearly complete stack independence, allowing developers to build applications on the operating systems, middleware and supporting services of their choice. Cloud Manager also provides the ability to consistently manage applications across cloud service instances, including multiple WAP services and/or Azure public cloud.

Dell Cloud Manager supports the leading public and private IaaS clouds, including Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, Google Compute Engine, Joyent, ScaleMatrix, CloudStack, OpenStack, vSphere, Virtustream, and Windows Azure Pack.

Availability:

  • Dell Cloud Manager v11 is currently available as an on-premises deployment solution, or can be managed and hosted by Dell. Dell Cloud Manager v11 SaaS edition for management of public clouds is also currently available.
