ACCRA, February 25, 2015 - Delta Air Lines (NYSE:DAL) today announced it will continue its support of the Ghana Red Cross Society by funding a second year of the organization's 'Hang Up and Keep Up' malaria prevention campaign.  The scheme will benefit thousands of people in three regions of Ghana over the next 10 months thanks to the distribution of Long Lasting Insecticide Nets (LINS) to pregnant women and the under-fives.

This year the program will be further expanded to include the Kpetoae district in the Volta region in addition to the Greater Accra and Upper East regions which were already covered in 2014.  Delta's financial support will provide 3,000 LINS and fund training for an additional 20 volunteers as well as provide refresher training for the existing 80 volunteers in the field.

Once trained, every volunteer will visit 50 households - each with an average of six inhabitants - meaning as many as 30,000 additional people will benefit from practical help and advice regarding malaria prevention in 2015. Delta's partnership with the Ghana Red Cross Society, launched in February 2014, complements the ongoing work of Ghana's National Malaria Control programme.

"Delta has been proud to support the work the Ghana Red Cross Society over the past 12 months that target the vulnerable with LLINs with accompanying malarial prevention messages and our continued funding will help further reduce the rates of malarial infection and infant mortality in the country," said Perry Cantarutti, Delta's senior vice president for Europe, the Middle East and Africa. "Delta is committed to being a good global citizen and it's by supporting important schemes such as this that we give something back to the communities we serve around the world."

"Our collaboration with Delta is giving us valuable additional resources to strengthen our fight against malaria, enabling us to give more people practical help and advice," added President of the Ghana Red Cross Society, Dr. Michael Agyekum Addo. "Our combined efforts to improve the lives of Ghanaian people with the greatest need will be strengthened by a second year of this project."

Delta has an existing national partnership with the American Red Cross providing a variety of opportunities to help alleviate suffering by maintaining a standing offer of complementary cargo and passenger space.

Delta has operated service to Ghana since December 2006 and now operates service to four African cities in four countries. Delta has grown from 22 weekly departures to and from Africa in December 2006 to more than 42 planned for summer 2015.  Through the hubs in Atlanta and New York-JFK, Delta offers an unsurpassed network of hundreds of convenient onward connections.
