Det Norske Oljeselskap ASA : Maersk Interceptor to Ivar Aasen

Maersk Interceptor is the name of the rig to be used on the Ivar Aasen field, a field operated by Det norske oljeselskap ASA. Anita Utseth, Offshore Installation Manager at Ivar Aasen, had the honor of naming the rig in Stavanger today.

Anita was pleased to be part of such an important milestone for the Ivar Aasen project, and for Det norske as a company.

"A naming is all about luck on the road. With the rig in place, we see the first major piece in place physically. Now we are soon out in the field, it's exciting. The rig is crucial if we are to achieve the goal of first production in the fourth quarter of 2016"

Maersk Interceptor* is the second in a series of four ultra harsh environment jack-up rigs. Maersk Interceptor will commence a five years firm contract with Det norske for drilling the Ivar Aasen field in the North Sea. The contract includes two one-year options. The estimated contract value for the firm contract is USD 700 million. Maersk Interceptor has been delivered from the Keppel FELS shipyard in Singapore.

Large and effective

With a leg length of 206 meters the rig is the world's largest jack-up rig and is designed for year round operation in the North Sea, in water depths up to 150 meter. Uptime and drilling efficiency are maximised through dual pipe handling. While one string is working in the well bore, a second string of casing, drill pipe or bottom hole, and we can reduce the non-productive time.

The drill floor features Multi Machine Control - a fully remote operated pipe handling system allowing all standard operations such as stand building and tripping to be conducted without personnel on the drill floor thus ensuring a high level of consistency across crews and an improved efficiency.
