• End-to-end encryption ensures security
  • Highly available and easy to use with an app and browser
  • Cloud service for sharing large and confidential files

Messe Berlin, one of the world's leading trade fair companies, is underpinning its digitization strategy with Safe Share, a highly secure solution for file sharing in the cloud, provided by T-Systemsand Covata. The file sharing service is as easy to use as familiar consumer file sharing applications, but is built upon government grade security architecture and runs in a highly secure German based data center provided by T-Systems.

'We were looking for a solution that would let users share files both internally and with external partners, simply, securely and on an ad hoc basis,' explained Bastian Rupp from Messe Berlin GmbH. 'The Safe Share solution by T Systems and Covata enables the secure and uncomplicated sharing of data, even of large files of 50 GB or more. For us, the important thing is to offer our users a solution that meets their needs, but that also ensures the necessary security for our company and supports our compliance requirements.'

Messe Berlin is systematically driving forward the digitization of business processes and, just in April, became the first trade fair company in Germany to operate the app-based warning and information system KATWARN.

The file sharing service is operated from the T-Systemscloud in Europe's most state-of-the-art data center in Biere, Saxony-Anhalt. Not only is the data center highly available but also satisfies Germany's stringent data protection regulations.

'Covata Safe Share is part of our extensive ecosystem of cloud partners that we have put together in Biere,' said Frank Strecker, SVP of T-SystemsCloud. 'This enables us to advise our customers on what might be the best cloud solution for them. The highly standardized product runs on Cisco's Intercloud platform and as such is available quickly. File sharing via Covata is audit-proof and traceable.'

'With a solution like this, CIOs comply with their digital responsibility and at the same time offer their internal customers the best possible service,' said Strecker.

User-friendly cloud solutions versus shadow IT
Speed and high availability of central business data are critical competitive factors for companies. All too often, employees use freeware they use outside of a corporate environment to exchange data - but they often fail to inform the IT department. This gives rise to shadow IT, in which security questions may go unanswered and employees may violate IT compliance regulations. The file sharing offering from Covata and T-Systemsnow provides CIOs a service that meets their needs for ease of use, high security and availability. Safe Share meets even the most stringent compliance rules and is the perfect alternative to free offerings.

Covata combines three core components for secure data management: Identity protection, real-time control of data and encryption. T-SystemsGerman data center ensures compliance with strict German guidelines for data privacy and data security, and looks after customer relationship management, providing support for users who have questions.

Files of any size can be shared with Covata Safe Share using the easy to use app or a browser. Every file is encrypted end to end, with encryption taking place directly on the user device or in the browser. The keys and data are stored separately and each key only works once per file. Owners of a file can restrict access to specific groups of people, permit read-only access or limit the time it is available. Companies thereby retail full sovereignty over their files, meaning that Covata Safe Share also complies with EU security requirements.

Customers obtain the service from the cloud or directly in their data centers. There is no upper limit to the number of users. It can be linked with existing platforms such as SharePoint quickly and easily. The solution is available in German and English; other language versions can be made available quickly if needed.
