Berlin, 31 March 2017. With the support of Vattenfall (an energy company), FACILITA Berlin, a subsidiary of Deutsche Wohnen, has laid the foundations for converting its vehicle fleet to e-mobility. The installation in March 2017 of a charging infrastructure for electric cars and electric bikes with a total of eleven charging posts in four locations within the company marked the successful completion of the final steps in this initial stage of the process.

As Ingo Kühl, head of operations and authorised representative of FACILITA Berlin, explains, 'This change in our mobility concept is part of our active sustainability management within the company. The successful development of the charging infrastructure and the procurement of very modern electric cars and bikes are just initial steps on the way to converting our entire vehicle fleet to state-of-the-art electro-technology.'

FACILITA Berlin, a wholly owned subsidiary of Deutsche Wohnen, is a leading company in infrastructural facility management that currently manages approximately 70,000 residential units from the portfolio of Deutsche Wohnen in Berlin. An important element in the context of the growth of the company, the accompanying rise in staff numbers and the additional properties to be managed was the introduction of a new and efficient mobility concept.

The basis for converting to e-mobility was the development of an innovative charging infrastructure. For this purpose, a total of eleven charging posts were installed in four locations in FACILITA, namely Pankow, Reinickendorf, Spandau and Steglitz. FACILITA chose Vattenfall to be its partner for this new mobility concept because, as a full-service operator, it is responsible for both electricity supply and the creation of the necessary charging infrastructure.

In the words of Gunter Nissen, innovation manager and head of the German e-mobility team at Vattenfall, 'We are delighted to be supporting FACILITA as its technical partner in converting its vehicle fleet to electric motors. Together, we are making an important contribution to improving the climate in Berlin and are demonstrating once again that electro-mobility really works in day-to-day practice. Vattenfall, just like Deutsche Wohnen, has recognised the sign of the times and is converting its entire vehicle fleet to electro-mobility.'

Given the extensive growth in the number of properties to be managed, the vehicle fleet of FACILITA Berlin has been completely overhauled. This significant increase in the number of properties required a larger vehicle fleet. However, with a much greater deployment of e-mobility and bicycles, it has been possible to reduce substantially the number of conventional motor vehicles. Since December 2016, eleven electric cars, eleven electric bikes and 41 bicycles have been added to the company's vehicle fleet. At the same time, the number of conventional motor vehicles has fallen from 26 to 10. By 2018, it is planned to convert the entire fleet the electro-mobility.
