Tokyo, Japan-DIC Corporation announced that its Yokkaichi Plant, located in the city of Yokkaichi, Mie Prefecture, received a fiscal year 2017 Fire and Disaster Management Agency (FDMA) Commissioner's Award as an excellent hazardous materials-related site. The award was presented at a national conference devoted to hazardous materials safety on June 5, 2017. In addition to compliance with the Cabinet Order Concerning the Control of Hazardous Materials, the award recognized the plant's placement, structure and equipment of facilities for hazardous materials, as well as its independent, and active measures aimed at ensuring the safe handling of such materials. The FDMA also cited the plant's cooperation in advancing official directives for safe management, including through meticulous training, praising it as a hazardous materials-related site that has made notable contributions to ensuring the safety of people's lives.

Located in the Yokkaichi Industrial Complex, the Yokkaichi Plant, which commenced operations in 1974, manufactures polystyrene for use in food containers and a variety of items for daily life. The plant has for many years implemented initiatives aimed at ensuring the safe management of hazardous materials and proper safety training for employees. These include formulating rules based on the Cabinet Order Concerning the Control of Hazardous Materials, conducting facility risk assessments and implementing drills to guarantee preparedness in the event of a plant accident or major earthquake. Thanks to these and other efforts, the plant has not had an accident resulting in workdays lost since July 2004, reporting 4,649 consecutive accident-free days as of March 31, 2017.
