Following its successful theatrical run and continued screenings by healthcare groups, DigiNext’sTHE AMERICAN NURSE is slated for DVD and download release July 1. The moving documentary highlights the lives of five nurses from diverse specialties with a sincere look at the commitment, necessity, and compassion behind this profession that impacts us all. The movie was developed following the success of the critically acclaimed, award-winning book The American Nurse: Photographs and Interviews by Carolyn Jones (2012). Ms. Jones also directed the movie.

The film follows the paths of nurses in various practices, including Jason Short as he drives up a rugged creek to reach a home-bound cancer patient in Appalachia. Tonia Faust runs a prison hospice where inmates care for fellow inmates as they're dying. Naomi Cross coaches an ovarian cancer survivor through the Caesarean delivery of her son. Sister Stephen runs a nursing home filled with good humor, plus goats, sheep, llamas and chickens. Brian McMillion, an Army veteran and former medic, rehabilitates wounded soldiers returning from war.
