The Dow Jones Industrial Average was down over 200 points before settling to close at 16,197.35, down 175.99 points or 1.07 percent for the day. The HSBC flash Purchasing Managers Index declined to 49.6 in January, down from 50.5 in December and the lowest reading since July. "This is the first time in many weeks that we've seen this kind of across-the-board volatility," said Adam Grimes, chief investment officer at Waverly Advisors.
