Discover Financial Services received a 2014 Golden Trumpet award from the Publicity Club of Chicago at the Club’s 55th annual Golden Trumpet Awards dinner gala held at the Palmer House Hilton in Chicago Wednesday night. Discover won in the Issues Management category for Pathway to Financial Success, a five-year, $10 million investment to bring financial education curriculum to public high schools across the country. This is the second consecutive year and third Golden Trumpet award Discover has received for their Pathway to Financial Success program. In 2013, Discover won Golden Trumpet awards for Creativity and Issues Management.

“We are honored to receive a Golden Trumpet award from the Publicity Club of Chicago for our efforts to champion financial education in our nation’s schools through the Pathway to Financial Success program,” said David Nelms, chairman and CEO at Discover. “This award is a testament to the success we are achieving in bridging the financial education gap in our country."

The Golden Trumpet Awards – the most prestigious awards program in the Midwest – honor the best of the best in Chicago public relations and recognize individual achievement in the planning, creativity and execution of public relations and communications initiatives, and demonstrated results.

The Pathway to Financial Success program is designed to raise awareness of the need for financial education and provide the tools and resources necessary to implement measurable financial education curriculum. Since its launch in 2012, the program has awarded more than $5.2 million in financial education grants to public high schools throughout the United States and is expected to impact more than a half million students by 2017.

The Publicity Club of Chicago recognized the Pathway to Financial Success program for continuing to raise broader awareness of the need for financial education, while promoting the availability of grants, building advocates for financial literacy among teachers and parents and providing a “pathway” for students to learn about finances at school.
