The Dodo announced today a $4.68 million Series A funding round led by Discovery and Softbank Capital, with participation from existing investors Greycroft Partners and RRE Ventures.

Launched in January 2014, The Dodo is a website that "speaks to a broadening, deepening concern about animals that's no longer sufficiently captured by the phrase 'animal welfare'," says Frank Bruni of the New York Times. "An era of what might be called animal dignity is upon us."

The Dodo is the first media company built entirely on RebelMouse, enabling The Dodo to create content experiences that live simultaneously across social, mobile and web channels. A partnership between Discovery, The Dodo and RebelMouse was a natural fit, allowing all three companies to meld their respective market-leading strengths.
